2016 Head Monster 98 All Mountain Skis Review

Monster 98

Head Monster 98 Skis 184cm

Turn Radius: 22m
Tyrolia Attack 13

One of the biggest surprises of testing 2016 skis was the all new Head Monster series of skis. All Monsters are made with the same Graphene WC Sandwich Cap Construction. When I went to test the ski I had the notion that it was going to be stiff and planky. Boy was I wrong. The skis is fairly stiff, but when you are skiing it you never notice it because of how damp the ski is. The ride you get out of all the Monster skis is amazing. They are so damp that you can go as fast as you want and you feel so relaxed. You don’t have to work hard at all to turn the skis they ski themselves and there is no speed limit thanks to the all new construction from Head. If you are looking for an all-mountain ski in that 98mm range and you want something stable on groomers and versatile when there is fresh snow I would highly suggest getting yourself into the new Head Monster 98 Skis. I am really like the direction head is moving with both their freeride and all-mountain skis. There truly is no limit for the head Monster Skis.

I purchased the head 98 all mt. and I loved the dampness. The graphene makes the ski feel light when you’re on the snow. It is stiff, to the flex but you don’t notice it in powder, that is where it becomes like going through butter. It is able to make sharp turns with ease, and floats so smooth you won’t believe it, and makes effortless shift change. I took it over ice rippling moguls, and it just skipped over the tops with complete control, on a gentler slope. It carves like a GS ski a little long but with the edge control, is fast and manageable. It does take some strength though on hard pact. The effortless float in powder is unbelievable. I would advise that you go with a shorter ski, it skis’ like a longer ski. I am 5’7″ and 163 cm was perfect. The balance was superb at that size. It felt like I was on a 180 cm. It is and old ski but indestructible and scratches aren’t that visible. The edges are strong and not prone to chip like other skis in the class. Overall, for the money a great ski, in my opinion. There not for everybody but weren’t meant to be.
